At the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco a sensative topic was raised as to whether game developers like CrowdStar, PopCap Game, Zynga and Playfish would eventually outgrow Facebook, as they look to own more of and more of their player’s online time. Right now social gaming and social networking sites go hand in hand and the relationship is symbiotic, but issues are bound to arise as these game producers expand and their home sites get more and more viewers. Will we see the day when players login to zynga.com to play facebook texas holdem poker or mafia wars?

Most analysts think this issue is a long way off in the future, but they agree that the day will eventually come when people no longer log into facebook and myspace to play games, opting instead to visit the game producer’s site directly.
